VXDSP Support Notes:
Master Adds Cells To Page

Overview

Brief note on a very useful feature of Masters.

When creating a new shape, sometimes you would like some ShapeSheet cell to refer to a cell on the Page. In particular, you might establish some User cells on the Page, and then have your shapes refer to these.

So, when you devise the Master, you set up equivalent "Page-level" cells in Master's ShapeSheet, and your actual shapes on the master can have formulas that refer to these Page-level cells. So far so good.

But what happens if you drop this master shape from the stencil onto a Page that doesn't have these cells? Turns out that Visio will automatically add these cells to the Page if needed. Phew!

This behavior is consistent with the way Visio adds other resources from stencil to drawing document as needed, such as Fonts, Colors, Styles, Patterns and so on.
